Update: August 22, 2022 10:50 a.m.
Dear Bengals,
Welcome! Whether you are beginning or continuing your educational journey with us, the start of a new academic year is an exciting time, and I look forward to welcoming you to the Buffalo State community.
Throughout the pandemic, you all have faced challenges and been called on to sacrifice significant rites of passage for the greater good of public health. During this time, we have appreciated your ability to adapt to an ever-evolving situation and to find opportunities for growth amidst many unprecedented challenges. Please know we are ready to support, help, and keep you connected to the campus community.
Some opportunities to support your engagement on campus are through a slate of activities and services that will help you connect with your fellow Bengals, pursue your path to success, and celebrate campus pride. Upcoming events include the Welcome Back Block Party, Esports Tournament, Bengals After Dark: Open Mic Night, and Homecoming. Please visit the Student Leadership and Engagement website to learn about some of the exciting programs and events taking place on campus!
As you navigate uncertain times, we are here to support your mental wellness through a variety of services. We are thrilled to welcome new staff to our counseling center that represent and support the diversity of our student body. We will be continuing to add access to our tele counseling services throughout the semester and I encourage you to watch the @lifeatbuffstate IG and Twitter feeds and Weigel Health Center website for updates. We are also excited to announce we are in the planning phase of a wellness lounge that will soon open on campus. You can expect a relaxation area, health and fitness programming, resources to support your mental and physical health as well as how to access healthy lifestyle choices, and many opportunities to engage with fellow Bengals.
Before you arrive to campus, I want to remind you that all students attending in-person classes or will have a presence on campus must be fully vaccinated. Students are considered fully vaccinated for the initial course of vaccination:
If you have not done so already, we strongly recommend that you obtain a COVID-19 booster once you become eligible. Please visit the CDC website to check your eligibility.

I am so glad to see new Bengals as well our returning ones. I encourage one another to foster a community free of intolerance and discrimination, and to promote a campus climate that is respectful, civil, and supportive. I wish you a great start to the semester; let’s keep roarin’ together and keep ourselves and the community safe.
With gratitude and care,
Timothy W. Gordon
